SOM GO Case Study - Accuracy Test

Wondering how the SOM GO’s accuracy compares with a GNSS RTK multi-band receiver? We did a field case study to answer exactly that.

Reach RS2 For Baseline

In a local park we set out 5 points using steel nails. We used the Reach RS2 RTK receiver to establish our baseline control points.

SOM GO with GPS Pole

We staked out the same 5 points using the SOM GO combined with a custom 5/8" thread adapter on a standard GPS pole.

Average deviation to the baseline control points were only 0.89 cm

SOM GO Device Only

We staked out the same 5 points using the SOM GO device only relying on our hands and eye sight for good placement over the nails.

Average deviation to the baseline control points were only 2.20 cm


Device Internal GPS

Lastly we measured the same 5 points using an android phone with it's internal GPS.

Average deviation to the baseline control points were full 2.87m

Results

With the SOM GO on a GPS pole coming in at under 1cm difference and the SOM GO device only at 2cm difference comparing to the RS2, it is safe to say that the SOM GO provides precise, centimeter accuracy.

Results

SOM GO was accurate within 3mm with a 98.6% accuracy compared to 69.5% of only using the phone.
Post processing was done using 3Dsurvey Software.
